The relationship between media policy and foreign policy Case study: A confrontational study of Iranian and American English-language newspapers

Abstract

In order to examine the relationship between media policy and foreign policy of the governments of Iran and the United States, this study has conducted a case study of news reports in four English-language newspapers in the two countries that are clearly dependent on the government. In this study, coping analysis method was used with verbal and genre coping analysis tools. The results indicate a significant difference in the ratio measured in Iran and the United States. The American model is based on the integration of media policy and policy with foreign policy and its inductive approach, while in Iran such an approach is almost never seen. The mainstay of most Iranian news reports is the inverted pyramid, which is used only for informing and informing, and has a significant impact on reducing the country's foreign policy freedom of action

انطلق البحث بخطّة دراسة الحالة من أجل دراسة الصلة ما بین السیاسة الإعلامیة والسیاسة الخارجیة لدولتی إیران وأمریکا وذلک عبر دراسة التقاریر الخبریة لأربع صحف تصدر باللغة الإنکلیزیة ذات انتماء واضح بالسلطة فی هذین البلدین. أفاد البحث من منهج التحلیل التقابلی ومن آلیة التحلیل التقابلی للکلام والصنف. وقد کشفت النتائج عن فارق مهم بالنسبة إلى الصلة المعنیّة فی البلدین إیران وأمریکا، حیث یعتمد النمط الأمریکی على توفیق الاستراتیجیات والسیاسة الإعلامیة مع السیاسة الخارجیة وذلک بتوجّه إیحائی؛ بینما تقریبًا لا یوجد توجّه کهذا فی إیران. أمّا النمط الحاکم على غالبیة التقاریر الخبریة فی الصحف الإیرانیة فهو على الغالب نمط الهرم المقلوب، إذ تُستخدم التقاریر المذکورة للإخبار والإعلام فقط، ولها تأثیر ملحوظ فی تقلیص حریة العمل فی السیاسة الخارجیة
